Blackwell’s Oxford panel discussion

  • Blackwell's Oxford 48-51 Broad St, Oxford OX1 3BQ (map)

Join performance maker and poet, Vera Chok, and debut non-fiction authors Daisy J. Hung and Anna Sulan Masing to discuss race, identity and belonging with respect to East and Southeast Asian communities in Britain today. The panel will be chaired by academic and poet Jennifer Wong. Vera’s poetry collection, Angry Yellow Woman, Daisy’s book, I am Not a Tourist: Conversations on Being British Chinese, and Anna Sulan’s book, Chinese and Any Other Asian: Exploring East and South East Asian Identity in Britain, each explore racism and resistance in unique ways.

Through extensive research, storytelling and poetry, the authors give needed visibility to communities that are often unseen and rarely discussed but have been an integral part of British history and society. By challenging existing stereotypes that seek to dehumanise, these books emphasise the diversity and complexity of East and Southeast Asian experiences. Join us for an insightful conversation centring intersectional stories that deserve attention.
