Author, advocate and artist
I am a diversity practitioner, writer, and artist, advocating for social justice across personal and professional spheres. My day job is working as the Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division at the University of Oxford.
As a person of Chinese descent, born in Canada with family from Hong Kong, raised in the US, and now settled in the UK, my sense of identity has shifted among many different contexts. My international perspective on race, identity, and belonging, has been informed by a 20-year career across legal, non-profit and education sectors working to support marginalised communities.
My writing journey has included being longlisted for the Penguin WriteNow 2020 competition, and selected for the inaugural HarperCollins Author Academy programme in 2021 and The Greene Door Project’s mentoring scheme in November 2021.
When I’m not working or writing, I’m spending time with my family and friends, and creating embroidery art. My (Un)covering embroidered face mask project was commissioned by the ESEA Community Hub.
